EU to Delay Their Conflict Minerals Directive

Earlier this week, the European Commission announced that they were delaying action on the EU legislation on conflict minerals because the Commission rejected the initial impact assessment.  Judith Sargentini, a member of European Parliament, was quoted as saying “The impact assessment was ready, but was deemed not enough.”  No further information has been provided.

The revised impact assessment is expected to be presented to the Commission by the end of 2013, with a final proposal to follow around the end of first quarter 2014.
